Eldoret:Police net thousands of stolen mobile phones and Illicit Liquor
A Multi-agency team led by the Uasin Gishu County police commander and County officials netted thousands of stolen mobile phones stashed in a sack at a shop in Kamkunji Estate Soy sub-county, Uasin Gishu.
According to Uasin Gishu County Commander Benjamin Mwanthi, the officers recovered hundreds of mobile phones suspected to have been stolen.
“Today we have arrested two suspects a lady and a man were in possession of of illicit alcohol in the same area and hundreds of stolen phones were also netted.
An assortment of electronic goods was also netted.
Mwanthi asked members of the public who may have lost their phones to visit the Eldoret police station and identify the recovered phones and other electronic items.
“We are urging members of the public to visit the Central police station Eldoret in order to identify any of their mobile phones that could have been stolen” noted Mwanthi.
The Operation the Multi-agency team also netted thousands of contraband goods and counterfeit liquor believed to have been imported from the Neighboring country of Uganda.
The county commander has warned business people will not enjoy a carte blanche in the illicit trade,
“We have netted cartons and cartons of counterfeit liquor from a neighboring country, it lacks the standardization mark of quality from KEBS and the importers evaded paying tax to the Kenya Government “He added
Mwanthi advised members of the public against the consumption of the illicit brew as it was inexplicable to the deplorable health of those consuming it.
“We will not relent in this fight, we have assured members of the public to continue sharing information with the police and other government representatives at the village level, the information they give will be held in confidence and police will act immediately upon it” assured the police boss.
Koiya Arap Maiyo Director of Alcoholic Drinks and Licensing Board Uasin Gishu County said as a county they have declared war on those involved in this illegal business.
“In the last 30 days we have Destroyed 13500 liters Kangara, confiscated Changaa 1450 litres, arrested dealers 87, and Court fines worth 1.8 M.Operation continues in all Sub counties 24/7,” he said.
“We are working under instructions from President William Ruto and our able governor Jonathan Bii who have directed us to deal with illegal liquor. We will not relent until the day when illegal alcohol will be a thing of the past,” he added.
