Uasin Gishu County Assembly Nominated MCA Maina Wachira has mourned the death of Kikuyu Council of Elders North Rift chapter chairman, Muthamaki Kimani Gatonye.
The deceased who was 87 years old died at Eldoret Hospital after a short illness.
Gatonye served as the council chairman for barely three years after taking over from the late Mzee Kamunu wa Kabari following his demise.
Wachira who married his last-born daughter Sera Silvya Waithera Gatonye described the deceased as a hardworking and down-to-earth person who did not discriminate against anybody despite their tribal, political, or economic background.
“On behalf of my family and friends, I want to send a message of condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. I have not only lost a father-in-law but a friend, May God give you strength during this hard time of mourning,” said Wachira.
He said despite his poor financial background the deceased accepted him as his son-inlaw.
“I had nothing while marrying his daughter but Mzee accepted me. He was my mentor who always advised me We will really miss him because the gap he has left will not be filled,” he said.
Wachira said the deceased was a uniting factor not only in the family but the County at large.
“Mzee was a firm leader who stood by his words and a national figure because his family intermarried with other tribes,” he added.
