Kalenjin Elders Mourn the Death of Mukami Kimathi and Muthamaki Gatonye Kimani

Kalenjin Council of Elders from Uasin Gishu have mourned the deaths of Prominent Kikuyu Leaders Mukami Kimathi the wife to Field Marshal Dedan Kimathi and GEMA chairman Joseph Gatonye Kimani.

Led by Uasin Gishu County chairman of Kalenjin Council of Elders Alexander Kiptoo Mursi, they send their messages of condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

“On behalf of the Kalenjin elders we want to send our messages of condolences to the family and friends of Mukami Kimathi. May God give you strength during this hard time of mourning,” said Mursi while speaking to the press.

They also mourned the passing on of Uasin Gishu GEMA chairman Joseph Gatonye Kimani terming him a hero and a mentor to many leaders from the region.

Gatonye died on 11th May 2023 at Eldoret Hospital following a short illness.

They said the deceased will be remembered as a prominent leader whom people will live to celebrate because of the unity he brought.

“Gatonye is remembered as a great leader for uniting many people in Uasin Gishu. He has brought many Kikuyus who have interacted with our Kalenjin People and due to his leadership they are living peacefully with one another, “said the Chairman of Kalenjin Council of Elders.

Willy Arap Chesing’il noted that Mukami fought for the freedom and independence of Kenya together with Kalenjin Heroes which include Koitalel Arap Samoei.

“We will remember Gatonye because he started living among us when he was young and thrived well in the livestock business. May God rest his soul in eternal peace,” added Arap Chesang.
