Nairobi County Government acquires new vehicles to improve service delivery
Nairobi City County has procured 19 new vehicles to drive efficiency and to better serve the people of Nairobi.
The majority of the new vehicles will be deployed to the security and compliance department, inspectorate, to replace the battered, dilapidated vehicles on the road.
Governor Sakaja Johnson said: “These vehicles are not for individual’s luxury and comfort. They are meant to serve the people of Nairobi. One of the things we promised when we came into office is to address the issue of dilapidated vehicles in the county, we are doing so in phases”.
“These are tools (vehicles) for serving the people of Nairobi and not to harass…We must treat the people of this city with dignity and utmost respect” said Governor Sakaja during the flag off the vehicles at City Hall earlier this morning.
The Governor noted that improved revenue collection, especially in the first four months of this year, has enabled the county to acquire these new vehicles and to invest in infrastructure development.
“We have increased our revenue collection in the first four months by Ksh 1.5 billion as compared to the same period last year,” added Governor Sakaja.
Other departments to receive the vehicles include revenue, health, environment, and social services among others.
The county government has also partnered with Isuzu Kenya to retrain the county drivers.
Isuzu East Africa Dealers Representative Mr. Justus Mathenge said: “I must commend you Governor for initiating a transformative administration and changing the face of Nairobi County. As Isuzu East Africa, we shall continue partnering with the county and supporting its efforts to deliver quality services for the people of Nairobi”.
