ICT Department Working on Contact Center and HIMS System
The County Department of Information Communication Technology and Innovation has trained its focus on providing high-tech support to enable the functionality of government programs and systems.
The department is working on, among other programs, the County Contact Centre will majorly be a communication link between the government and the public, in terms of customer service and general inquiries.
The Centre is being established at Kapseret Sub-County Offices and will be run by the department of ICT and Innovation. It seeks to promote the improvement of emergency response, open governance, citizen engagement and public participation.
County Executive for ICT, Eng Lucy Ng’endo, together with Director of ICT, Titus Mengich, on Friday visited the Contact Centre to check on the construction progress. The works are almost complete, painting and furniture fitting ongoing. The executive was content with the progress.
Later on, the Executive and the Director visited Kapteldon Sub-County Hospital to also check on the progress of the installation of the internet. The facility is among many that the department is working to connect internet to enable the functionality of systems.
“Governor Jonathan Bii’s government is focused on using technology for efficiency in service delivery and internet connectivity as well as general ICT support is an enabler,” said Eng Ng’endo.
The fibre internet that is being worked on for Kapteldon Hospital will enable and make the Health Management Information System (HMIS) functional. The system is a data collection system specifically designed to support the management of health clients’ records, keeping track of medical and non-medical supplies, and general accountability.
“As a department, we are deploying our best effort to ensure that we meet deadlines and ensure that the ICT support becomes an enabler for government functions,” Chief Officer for ICT, Felix Kimaru, says.
Mr Mengich said: “An ICT officer will be attached to every facility for assistance and general support to ensure the (HMIS) system works fully.”
At Kapteldet ICT Centre, Eng Ng’endo and Mr Mengich later mingled with youth from Kapseret/Simat Ward who are being trained by Berur Driving School, on motor vehicle driving.
The trainees are part of the 900 youth from various wards, sponsored by the County Executive and the Assembly, in an empowerment program aimed at equipping youth with technical skills.
