In a bid to uplift agriculture, boost trade and enhance job creation, Uasin Gishu County Governor Jonathan Bii has embarked on a massive ambitious road construction program across the County.
Already, over 800 kilometres of new roads have been graded in a program that was launched in November last year. This is part of the 220 ongoing projects involving compacting marram roads, drainage works, and installation of culverts, box culverts, and construction of new bridges.
Speaking during an inspection of ongoing works along Kalyet-Toloita road in Moiben Ward Moiben Sub County, Governor Bii said the ongoing program under the 2022/23 financial year had a target of 1000 kilometres of new roads across the county.
“During the campaigns, I promised the people of Uasin Gishu good roads to enhance transport under the sixth Nguzo Kumi agenda of my manifesto on roads and infrastructure. Good roads are very important for both Wheat, Maize, and Dairy farmers,” Governor Bii told the residents of Kalyet.
“As a county government, we are committed to fulfilling our promises. I am happy to see the tarmacked Soy-Kipsangui-Kabenes road, my wishes and plans are to see my administration implement such massive projects, especially on roads leading to trading centres and key facilities like hospitals and markets, “Governor Bii Continued.
According to the County Roads, Transport and Public Works County Executive Committee Member Eng. Joseph Lagat, gravelling of more than 800 kilometres in seven months is good traction of the 3,300 km of all roads under the county government.
“In total, we have 220 ongoing road projects at the moment, 30 of which are here in Moiben Sub County, eleven of which are ongoing in Moiben ward. I want to thank the MCA’s for their cooperation, CECM Eng Lagat noted.
Moiben Ward MCA Hillary Toroitich said he has inspected eight ongoing projects and expressed satisfaction with the quality of the work. He pledged to support the engineers and contractors on the ground to ensure they deliver on time.
The residents urged the county team and the contractor to expedite and complete the road projects within their area before the onset of the heavy rain season.
The county boss was accompanied by a team of county senior officials including County Executive Committee Members, Chief Officers, Directors, Sub County and Ward Administrators among others.
