Committee Concludes Visits to KBC Installations
The National Assembly Broadcasting and Library Services Committee has concluded a two day site visits to Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) installations in the Western Region.
During the inspection visits, Members led by Committee Vice-Chair Hon Engineer John Kinyua, toured the KBC transmission sites in Kisii and Gem-Yala, as well as the National Broadcaster’s Regional Office in Kisumu.
During a visit to the Kisumu office, Members got a taste of the Mashinani Studio; which is an undertaking of KBC for free music recording for aspiring artists in the Region.
The KBC team told Members that artists are required to register and book a recording date on the online Ajira platform, and that the broadcaster also helps publicize their music through its radio and digital platforms.
Hon. Engineer Kinyua said KBC has immense potential and has an enviable opportunity to inform Kenyans on a timely basis, with the necessary support from government.
“KBC has many assets, especially land which if properly utilized can make some profit for the broadcaster, as we institute other reforms,” said Hon. Eng. Kinyua.
Renowned entertainer turned Lang’ata MP Hon. Phelix Odiwour; alias Jalang’o, shared his personal experience as a musician and recording artist, and suggested the need for the Mashinani Studios to be better publicized to tap into the pool of talent that is unharnessed.
“We need to let our young people know about the existence of these studios, the registration process and especially stress that they will not be charged to record music,” said Hon. Jalang’o.
KBC has Mashinani Studios in Kisumu,Lang’ata, Komarock, Kitui, Gatanga and Mombasa.
Members will draft a report which will be tabled in the House for adoption.
