Police Net Electronic Items Worth Sh 11 Million, Arrest One Suspect
Police in Kiambu County have recovered stolen electronic items worth Sh 11 million.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the electronics were found at a scrap metal yard owned by Patrick King’ori following a raid trap conducted by the detectives.
One suspect was arrested.
“The suspect identified as Florence Kariuki, 30 years was arrested during the raid as the efforts to arrest the main suspect continue,” stated the DCI.
Among the recovered items from that scrap metal yard include: transformer fuses, pilon bindings, transformer lamination, high extension cables, and transformer shells.
According to the report by DCI, the prime suspect connected to this crime and the owner of the yard, King’ori, has gone into hiding.
Reports from Kenya Power and Lighting Company have it that they have estimated sh12 million in terms of losses resulting from vandalism in the last six months stating that the company loses about ksh600,000 to each transformer vandalized.
According to Kenyan law (Section 64(4) Energy Act No. 12), vandalism offense is punishable by a fine not exceeding ksh1,000,000 or a maximum imprisonment of one year.
