The county government is in the process of legislating Trans Nzoia County Climate Change Act that will provide a legal framework on mitigation, adaptation and resilience strategies among other actions to manage the effects of Climate Change.

A multi-sectoral team reviewing the policy document from the Executive and which will be subjected to the County Assembly for debate seeks to bridge the gaps and align it with other national and international laws.

The exercise is supported by GIZ which is also working with eight other counties in the Lake Region Economic Block (LREB) with Ochieng Ochieng Advocates as the lead consultant in the process.

Water, Environment and Climate Change committee chair in the County Assembly Hon. Daniel Mosbei officially opened the two day workshop on the review process at a Kisumu hotel on Thursday. Mosbei was accompanied by the committee vice chair Hon. John Makhanu.

The draft law is also in line with H.E. Governor George Natembeya’s manifesto on climate change adaptation and mitigation strategic plans.
