More than 2000 bags of beans and rice for Kerio Valley schools
School feeding program in Kerio Valley is set to kick off after the County received more than 2000 bags of beans and rice from the national government.
This follows H.E Governor Wisley Rotich’s request to Interior Cabinet Secretary Kindiki Kithure when he visited Kerio Valley last month.
Some 160 bags of beans and 400 bags of rice were distributed in each of the Sub Counties.
Chief Officer Peace, Conflict Resolution and Disaster Management Mr Lawrence Mutwol while receiving the supplies at Chesoi, Marakwet East Sub-County offices noted that production in the Kerio Valley belt had plummeted in the previous season owing to erratic climate conditions and banditry.
He said: “We have had bandit attcks and poor rains in the region which disrupted farming activities in our region. I would like to thank His Excellency Governor Wisley Rotich for reaching out CS Kindiki for the support. It will ensure that students remain in school in school.”
Last Month during a visit by CS Kindiki, Governor Rotich requested support from the CS for food supplies to keep learners in school. “Our people had no time to cultivate their farms. Kindly find out a way of bringing them food. I assure you that if insecurity is contained, we will be feeding other parts of the country in the coming years,” he said during a peace meeting in Chesegon.
The Governor also donated food rations to the National Police Reservists (NPR) in Arror and Endo Wards, which he termed as a token of appreciation for their good work.
