Eldoret: North Rift Religious Message to Praident Ruto
Religious leaders in North Rift have called for bipartisan talks between President Wiliam Ruto and opposition leader Raila Odinga in order to restore peace in the country.
Addressing residents during a thanksgiving ceremony at St. Joseph’s Chepterit Girls High School, the leaders said the rivalry between the two top coalition principals was witnessed in the demonstrations witnessed in a number of counties that lead loss of lives and destruction of property.
Catholic Bishop of Eldoret Diocese Dominic Kimengech said the protests threaten to disrupt peace and incite violence in the country.
“Viongozi wetu waweze kukaa chini na kuongea pamoja, ile kitu inaitwa dialogue, kwa sababu nchi ikiharibika inaharibikia kila mtu na ndio maana nasema tuweze kuomba na kutafuta mbinu ya kutatua haya mambo yote ambayo tunaweza kuona inatupeleka mbali,” he said.
He also urged Kenyans to stick together as one family and avoid fighting each other as the country, as well as the economy, will depreciate.
“Sisi tukiwa wanakenya, sisi ni familia moja, nchi moja, na tukigawanyika namna hii nchi yetu itaumia zaidi,” said Kimengech.
Area Member of Parliament Paul Biego asked the opposition to give the Kenya Kwanza government time to implement its policies without disruption.
“Give time to the Kenya Kwanza, they have a manifesto that if you actually like the Kenyan citizens, there is actually a good part of the country that is also believing in President Ruto, so you need to give us time,” said Biego.
“Your time is going to come, so I condemn with the strongest terms possible the maandamano, the destruction of property, lives being lost and you continue in total disregard of all of these. So I call upon the opposition to call off the maandamano.”
