Shanderema Receives A Shot In The Arm Ahead Of National School Games

Kakamega County Governor Fernandes Barasa has honoured a request from Shanderema Secondary School Management to support the institution’s football team as they prepare for the upcoming Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association games that officially begin on Monday 7th August, 2023 in Kakamega County.

The County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Social Services, Sports, Youth, Gender and Culture Mr Mophat Mandela, on behalf of H.E the Governor today, Monday, presented a cheque worth Shs 570,000 to the school to cater for the team’s camp and other logistics.

This follows another cash reward by Governor Barasa to the team after edging out pre-final favourites Musingu School in the finals to lift the County trophy at Bukhungu Stadium, a week ago.

According to the CECM, the support is a big morale booster to the County champions nicknamed “Shandy”, and will go a long way in aiding their preparations which are critical for a better performance in the competitions.

Mr Mandela also used the opportunity to advise the learners to balance between sports and academics asking them to excell in both.

Shanderema are in a tough Pool A and will square it out against North Eastern’s Bute, Kirangari from Central Kenya and Nyanza’s representatives Agoro sare.

Present were Chief Officers: Mr Joseph Abucheri (Sports, Youth and Library Services) and Ms Faith Gitira (Housing and Urban Development), the Governor’s Personal Assistant Mr Geoffrey Mitalo and Mr Godfrey Lumumba the Director of Youths and Sports.
