Senate Agriculture Committee Summons Agriculture and Livestock Development CS

Senate Standing Committee on Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries chaired by Kirinyaga County Senator, Sen.James Kamau Murango,MP, has summoned Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, Hon. Mithika Linturi for failing to appear before them to answer to Statements sought by Senators.

The committee directed that the Cabinet Secretary appears before them on August 21st, 2023 and further requested him to furnish the Committee with responses on the following Statements;

a) Statement sought by Sen. Enoch Wambua, MP regarding the current drought mitigation programmes in Arid and Semi-Arid Lands.

b)Statement sought by Sen. Samson Cherarkey regarding the planned importation of 10,000 bags of maize by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development.

c) Statement sought by Sen. Godfrey Osotsi regarding the National Agricultural and Rural Inclusive Growth Program (NARIGP).

d) Statement sought by Sen. Alexander Mundigi regarding the state of macadamia nut production and marketing.

e) Statement sought by Sen. Alexander Munyi regarding the status of Horticultural crops Directorate.

The Committee further considered a petition regarding the Catastrophic Maize Diseases that Farmers in Bomet County have endured for the last 12 years and resolved to invite the Petitioner.
