Pius Masai Thoughts on Disaster Preparedness
Former Acting Director, National Disaster Management Unit (NDMU) – Pius Masai Mwachi has taken a moment to share his thoughts on disaster preparedness.
Here’s what he has to tell us on matters regarding disaster preparedness.
” Disaster Resilience and Facts ”
All Protocols Observed.
Facts
I appreciate you all for recognition and those are true Facts that you are discussing in terms of our preparedness as a country.
We are ill Prepared as a country in the way many things are done.
The KPLC blackout is a big test as Country.
Some operations and treatment didn’t take place.
Safety, Security, Tourism, travel, transport and businesses are most affected.
A lot of food and property destroyed and damaged.
Many functions interrupted.
A lot of insecurity and crime rate high.
Imagine it is only one day, what about if the situation takes place for some days, weeks, months and years?
We are not prepared, indeed there is a big loss to individuals, institutions and the country.
That is what I always say that Kenya is bigger than all of us.
Where are Contingency Plans specific for Energy and Power among others?
Are we really prepared as a country?
This situation should be an eye opener to everybody in Kenya.
If such situation persist, guess what next, no jobs, no foreign currency, no visitors and a drop in businesses, jobs and big loss to our economy.
Your comfortable should inform you your challenges as an opposite measure.
There is need to think big, as a country without reasoning in terms of who is of my tribe, family and friend but focusing and investing in professionalism, Talents and Experience.
Employment should be in terms of Professionalism, talent and experience but not as political rewards for those whom we believe they supported us in coming to power or they very close family members and from my party or camp.
As country we aren’t fully prepared for all-hazard Plans.
I am sorry if I have offended any of you.
Experience is the best Teacher.
It doesn’t matter about your tribe, size, where you come from, belong to but what you can do in making Kenya more safer, Secured and supporting development, creating jobs for many and attracting international friendships and tourism.
You can differ with me professionally, in Talents and Experience but you can’t stop me in doing what is right and within the law.
Thank You.
