The County Government of Uasin Gishu on Wednesday hosted Nandi County Directorate of liquor licensing to benchmark on the operations of the Uasin Gishu Alcoholic Drinks Control Board (ADCB).

The benchmarking exercise aimed to enhance the understanding and implementation of the Alcoholic Drinks Control Board Act, licensing cycle, compliance, outreach/sensitization activities, rehabilitation and enforcement of alcohol drinks trade consumption.

Speaking during the exercise, Health Services County Executive Committee Member, Dr Sam Kotut, noted that the board have put up legal framework for regulating the production, sale, and consumption of alcoholic drinks thus providing guidelines for obtaining licenses, setting up businesses, and ensuring compliance with the relevant regulations.

“The licensing cycle is a crucial component of the ADCB operations which involves the issuance and renewal of licenses to establishments involved in the sale of alcoholic drinks and therefore this knowledge exchange will help improve the licensing process by making it more efficient and transparent,”said Dr Kotut.

Chief Officers for Promotive and Preventive Health, Dr Joyce Sang and Clinical Services’ Dr Paul Wangwe urged Nandi County to conduct regular inspections, awareness campaigns, and penalties for non-compliant establishments.

“By adopting similar measures, Nandi County can enhance its efforts to promote responsible drinking and curb illegal alcohol trade,”adds the duo.
