Housing Committee Asks the State Department Foe Housing to Urgently Complete Stalled Housing Projects

Members of the National Assembly housing committee led by Hon. Johana Ng’eno (Emurua Dikirr) together with officials from the state department for housing led by PS Housing , Charles Hinga conducted Site inspections to ongoing Housing Projects in AP Training college -Utawala and Ruiru G.K Prisons to check the status of completion for the projects.

During the tour to of the projects, the committee expressed their concern on the state of the projects which have stalled for long and continue to be subjected to wear and tear forcing the Government to spend more money in renovating the projects.

Some of the projects have stalled since 2018, and this has led to a huge congestion within the available houses, which are also not in decent conditions.

In an impromptu visit to one of the iron sheet houses habited by officers at The AP training Camp, PS Hinga, and Hon. Ng’eno could not withstand the heat inside the room, and one could tell the harsh environment the officers live in with their families.

“Our officers ought to live in a decent environment so as to give them morale and will to effectively deliver on their duties,” said Ng’eno.

Members of the Committee are now calling upon the state department to move in fast and complete all the stalled projects as well as address key issue in such projects, among them poor workmanship and improper designs.

The Committee will, on a later date, invite the state department for housing and their counter-part in the state department for public works to shed more light on the many queries members raised out of the inspection.
