Uasin Gishu: Renowned Farmer Organizes Field Day and Exhibition For Farmers
Renowned Uasin Gishu farmer Peter Ruto organized a field day and exhibition at his farm in Chemusian, Ainabkoi Constituency, Uasin Gishu County.
He said the aim of the exhibition and fields day is to encourage farmers to engage in selective breeding practices to improve the quality of production and their livestock.
“It also provided a platform for farmers to exhibit their livestock to showcase their achievements and expertise and also to connect with potential buyers,” said Ruto while speaking to the press.
He noted that farmers also established connections between livestock breeders and buyers who were present.
“Uasin Gishu Livestock Breeders the organization I belong to, what we are doing is connecting all the farmers and providing platforms for these farmers to sell their products that is fodder, cows, and Milk. We also negotiate on their behalf,” he said.
The exhibitor showcased machines for balling, and chopping among others.
Uasin Gishu governor Jonathan Bii who was the Chief guest said the exercise provided an inclusive marketplace that connected livestock breeders with potential buyers while also promoting best practices in animal husbandry.
“I want to applaud Ruto for this initiative as a County we will support him in this. I also call upon farmers to have animal breeds that can sustain hardship and one that gives high yields.,” said Governor Bii.
He noted that his administration will provide more coolers that will help farmers increase their productivity and help fight poverty
“Agricultural exhibitions play a pivotal role in demonstrating how farmers are leveraging technology to improve productivity and achieve profitability. Through value addition we will be able to find a market place for milk,” he added.
Present were CECM Edward Sawe (Agriculture) and Chief Officers Elphas Kesio (Agriculture) and Nixon Cheplong (Livestock).
