Kenya-Zammbia to Enhance Parliamentary Friendship Groups

The Kenyan House Business Committee delegation led by National Assembly Majority Whip Hon. Silvanus Osoro, held a meeting with the Zambian Parliamentary caucus chairpersons to explore the establishment of friendship groups among African Parliaments.

Legislators from both Kenya and Zambia acknowledged that this dynamic exchange and utilization of caucuses in Parliamentary proceedings play a crucial role in shaping legislative agendas and fostering collaborative efforts.

“This collaborative spirit is not only for shaping a nation’s legislative agenda but also for strengthening the Kenya-Zambia relationship”, said Hon. Osoro.

They indicated that the forums offer platforms for crafting strategic plans for the regions’ benefit.

Hon. Korere said they recognized the role the Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA) played in pursuit for the Two-Thirds Gender Rule.

The discussion highlighted the need for dedicated Pan-Africanists within the Pan-African Parliament, underscoring the importance of unwavering commitment to the cause.

Hon. Osoro indicated that the Kenyan Parliament has diversified its caucus portfolio, including regional entities like the Pastoralists caucus where entities prioritize agendas that requires attention.

Hon. T.J. Kajwang, emphasized on the need of quality debating saying that it expounds on a matter before the House for the benefit of the public.

He further indicated that caucuses were important forums in a parliamentary set up noting that in Kenya they serve as platforms for the exchange of ideas and knowledge, creating opportunities that directly benefit the Kenyan populace.

“It is of utmost importance to harmonize caucuses across African Parliaments and align them with continental groups to effectively address common issues on both the continental and global stages”, said Zambian Deputy Speaker Hon. Moses Frank Moyo.

Recognizing the diminishing spirit of Pan-Africanism, the meeting emphasized the necessity of having Members who genuinely believe in the causes they represent to fully realize their objectives.

Other Members in the meeting included Hon. Adan Keynan, Hon. Joseph Munsanje, Hon. Eliot Kamondo, Hon. Anthony Kasandwe, Hon. Sarah Korere and Hon. Munir Zulu.
