Uasin Gishu Ready for World AIDS Day
The Uasin Gishu County Government is taking a comprehensive approach to tackling the pressing issues surrounding HIV/AIDS in the region. They recently held a stakeholder engagement meeting to discuss strategies for curbing the rise in new HIV infections, teenage pregnancies, drug and substance abuse, and gender-based violence. The county’s HIV prevalence rate stands at 3.7%, with a staggering number of 33,000 individuals currently under Antiretroviral Therapy (ARV’s).
In an effort to address the alarming rate of teenage pregnancies, the County Government is working to implement comprehensive sex education programs in schools. They are also partnering with community-based organizations to provide counseling and support services to young women.
To combat the pervasive issue of drug and substance abuse, the County Government is expanding access to treatment and rehabilitation programs. They are also working to raise awareness about the dangers of drug use and to promote positive alternatives for young people.
To address the persistent problem of gender-based violence, the County Government is working to strengthen the implementation of laws and policies that protect women and girls. They are also providing training to law enforcement officials and judicial officers on how to handle cases of gender-based violence.
The County Government is collaborating with various stakeholders, including community-based organizations, NGOs, and health institutions, to ensure the successful commemoration of World AIDS Day on December 1st. Their goal is to raise awareness, educate the public, and reduce the impact of HIV/AIDS within the County.
These proactive measures are essential to addressing the complex challenges posed by HIV/AIDS in Uasin Gishu County. By working together, the County Government and its partners can create a healthier and more equitable future for all residents.
