Murang’a County is slated to host the 13th edition of Water Companies Sports Organization games in August next year.

This comes after the 12th edition was held in Narok this year under the courtesy of Narok Water and Sewerage Services Company (Narwassco).

Officials from the Narok county government and Narwassco have handed over the ceremonial medals including a chain and shield of WASCO to Murang’a Water and Sanitation Company (Muwasco) and officials of the Murang’a county government.

National Chairman of WASCO Mr. Musa Ouma asked the Murang’a county government together with Muwasco to prepare well to host more than 6, 000 guests who will be involved in the games.

He said 40 water firms from different parts of the country have confirmed to participate in the games which will be running from August 12 to 16 of next year.

“The 12th edition held in Narok was successful and more than 5,000 sportsmen and women from various water firms participated. Here in Murang’a, we expect to host more than 6, 000 guests next year,” said Ouma.

The chairman further said that 15 different sports games will be played during the week asking the Murang’a county administration to prepare well in terms of needed infrastructure for various sports.

“Some of the sports to be played during the set week include soccer, athletics, volleyball, tennis, traditional dances, badminton, and basketball among others. Some of these games need specified infrastructure and we appeal to the county government and host water firm to prepare well for the slated sports,” he added.

Muwasco Managing Director Eng. Daniel Ng’anga lauded the decision to have Murang’a host the 13th edition of WASCO games saying the presence of sportsmen and women will boost local tourism in the county.

“The games come with many benefits including a boom in businesses, and exchange of cultural and expertise experiences among others. Before the slated dates, all necessary measures will be put in place for the sports,” he noted.

On his part, Murang’a deputy governor Stephen Munania said that as a county they are ready and they welcome the move to host the games saying the event will boost the economy of the county.

“We are here at the county government headquarters to receive the team from Narok county which came to hand over the mantle to Murang’a county as host for WASCO games come next year,” he said adding the one week-long event will see participants from various water companies come together

Munania continued “We are going to take part and help in the organization of these games for the event to be a success. The games bring in synergies of water companies across the country so that we can learn from one another,”

He underscored the sports saying they help the devolved administration improve water service provision and development agenda for the county.

“We are going to use sports facilities that are within the county and also partner with Murang’a University in accessing more sports facilities from the institution,” he said adding that they also intend to use local hotels to host the visiting delegations.

On his part, Narok counterpart Deputy Governor Tamalinye Koech said together with other officials had come to hand over the mantle to Murang’a county government to organize the next event.

“We have handed over the responsibilities of the WASCO mantles to Murang’a County on the preparations of the event next year,” he noted, asking the Murang’a government to be well prepared to host the games appropriately.
