Dr. Wilson K. Aruasa Hands Over MTRH Leadership

Dr. Wilson K. Aruasa MBS, EBS on Monday, December 18, 2023 handed over leadership of Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) to Dr. Philip Kirwa.

Dr. Aruasa, whose tenure has ended, served as Chief Executive Officer for 8 years.

The event was presided over by Board Chair, Mr. Sitoyo Lopokoiyit, MBS.
Dr. Aruasa is credited with far-reaching reforms and development of MTRH as an International & National Referral Hospital that saw it expanded in several spheres including immense Infrastructural development, modernization of equipment, number of patients being attended to, complexity of their diagnosis, strengthened public procurement processes, eradication of corruption and corrupt practices, motivated & highly skilled/specialized Human Resources for Health (HRH).

In recognition of outstanding services rendered to the nation in various capacities and responsibilities in healthcare, the outgoing CEO has been awarded both the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS) and Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS).

Dr. Aruasa has extensive experience in Healthcare Leadership and Stewardship with bias in Health Systems Strengthening and Financing that brought about the digitization of MTRH including prudent use of available public resources and sound governance.

” I am happy and we thank God that we have recorded infrastructural developments, positive staff culture and attitudes, efficiency and high level performance, managing and working with all stakeholders very well, proactive and empathetic/compassionate patient care that is family-centered to millions of patients from across the globe,” he said.

Dr Aruasa added: ” MTRH has adopted ethical leadership, working well with the community, adopting technology & risk-based management, supporting staff with resultant industrial peace & harmony, and an Institution that embraces continual improvement & continuous learning, a responsive Institution with quality at the core of operations, climate change contribution and many more. In short, we have had Total Societal Impact(TSI) as required of a modern and future-looking Institution.”

Dr. Philip Kirwa while accepting his new role, thanked the outgoing CEO, the Board Chair and Directors, assuring them and the Hospital Management Team that he will not to drop the ball and will collectively and collaboratively continue the transformation journey started by Dr. Aruasa as well as work with the Hospital partners and stakeholders, including the Ministry of Health and the government.

Dr. Kirwa is an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with over 23 years of Medical practice. He has previously served as Hospital’s Medical Director, Private Wings, Director, Reproductive Health and is currently, Senior Director, Clinical Services.

On his part the MTRH Board Chairman Sitoyo Lopokoiyit, MBS, thanked Dr. Aruasa for his utmost commitment to the Hospital and its mandate adding that the Board takes a lot of pride and gratitude for his transformational and progressive leadership.

He added that the Board is committed to supporting leadership at MTRH for the benefit of patient care.

The Board Chair urged the Hospital Management Team, Staff and partners to continue with the positive MTRH culture to guarantee excellent healthcare services to humanity.
