Governor Natembeya Shares Xmas With Prisoners, Frees 35 Inmates
Transzoia governor Governor George Natembeya on Christmas day visited the Kitale Annex Prison.
He shared meals and gifts with them and listened to their stories and challenges.
Natembeya further helped 35 inmates who were detained for lack of bail to secure their freedom and reunite with their loved ones.
“I was moved by the plight of these inmates who were languishing in prison for minor offences because they could not afford bail. I decided to intervene and assist them to get out and celebrate Christmas with their families,” he said.
The County boss praised the inmates for acquiring technical skills at the prison facility and urged them to use them to generate income and improve their lives. He advised them to shun crime and become positive role models in their communities.
“I encourage you to leverage the skills you have learned here to start your own businesses or get jobs when you leave. Do not go back to the activities that brought you here, but rather, empower others who are facing similar challenges,” he said.
He applauded the prison management for their efforts in rehabilitating the inmates and providing them with vocational training.
“I promised to help you in expanding the training programs to equip more inmates with relevant skills for the job market,” he said.
