𝐑𝐮𝐭𝐨 𝐋𝐚𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬 𝐊𝐬𝐡 𝟓𝟎 𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐍𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐫𝐢 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭, 𝐏𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐁𝐮𝐧𝐠𝐨𝐦𝐚

President William Ruto presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for the Ksh 50 million Naitiri ultra-modern market in Tongaren Sub County. This marks the start of his ambitious plan to build over 10 modern markets across Bungoma County, a key pillar of his Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.

“These markets will provide small traders with a dignified and organized environment to conduct their business, away from the scorching sun and dilapidated conditions they currently face,” President Ruto said.

He emphasized that the new facilities would not only address the issue of inadequate trading space but also offer ample opportunities for traders to expand their businesses.

Governor Kenneth Lusaka echoed the President’s sentiments, pledging to fast-track the completion of the Naitiri-Brigadier road, a critical infrastructure project for the region.

He expressed confidence that the road’s completion would significantly boost economic activity in the area.

Governor Lusaka also announced the commencement of the vetting process for the county’s free farm input distribution program, assuring transparency and emphasizing that only deserving and vulnerable farmers would benefit.

The Naitiri market itself is a two-story structure with a capacity to accommodate over 1,000 traders. It boasts 200 stalls, an administrative office, a cold room, a designated space for mothers with children, an ICT hub with a cyber café and printing services, an ATM booth, and a Sacco office, among other amenities.

President Ruto’s visit to Bungoma began in Tongaren Sub County with the launch of the state-of-the-art Naitiri S.A Township Primary School, a joint project between the national government and the Safaricom MPESA Foundation.

Several prominent leaders were present at the Naitiri market groundbreaking ceremony, including Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula, Cabinet Secretaries Susan Nakhumicha (Health) and Ezekiel Machogu (Education), Senator David Wakoli, Members of Parliament John Waluke (Sirisia), John Chikati (Tongaren), and Martin Wanyonyi (Webuye East), alongside MCAs and senior county officials
