Trans Nzoia County Gears Up for Project Launches after Week-Long Readiness Review

Governor George Natembeya’s administration has completed a week-long review process to assess the readiness of ongoing and upcoming projects for launch.

The Governor’s Delivery Unit (GDU) led the review, interacting with various departments including Sports, Gender, Youth, Culture and Tourism. GDU Director Benjamin Ndiyo Wanyonyi said the team will now conduct field visits to verify project progress and prepare a report for the Governor.

The review identified shortcomings in some projects, including slow contract awards, lack of proper documentation, and insufficient budgetary planning. GDU Director Samuel Ereng emphasized the need for departments to address these issues to avoid delays and cost overruns.

Departments with good practices, such as the Roads and Public Works which has already agreed on terms with contractors, were also noted.

Chief of Staff Dickson Wamocho called the sessions “fruitful” and said they will improve efficiency and ensure government funds are used effectively.

He acknowledged concerns raised by several departments about slow procurement processes and promised to address them.

Gender Advisor Justina Sitti urged departments to ensure gender inclusion in project implementation, including public participation and allocating 30% of tenders to women, youth, and people with disabilities.

Economic Advisor Mwambu Muliro advised departments to utilize the county attorney’s office for legal matters, particularly when signing contracts and agreements, to minimize future litigation costs.

He also highlighted concerns about insufficient budgets and human resources across departments, urging officials to work efficiently within available resources.

The review process aims to ensure smooth project launches and contribute to the fulfillment of Governor Natembeya’s “Ukombozi Manifesto” development goals.
