Eldoret: Muslims Cleric Want Establishment of Court of Appeal for Kadhis
Muslim leaders in Uasin Gishu County, led by Sheikh Abubakar Bini, have called on the government to establish a Court of Appeal for Kadhis.
This follows concerns raised by Sheikh Bini and other Muslim religious leaders, including Sheikh Albeit Ali, about the limited capacity of the current Kadhi Court system to handle disputes related to Islamic marriages, divorce, and inheritance.
“The current Kadhi Court, as it is, has shortcomings in handling in-depth disputes about Islamic marriages, divorce cases, and inheritance matters,” the Muslim leaders said.
“If a complainant is not satisfied with the decision of the Kadhi court as it is now, there is no way a Muslim can appeal the decision of that court, thus continuing to deny hundreds of Muslims justice in our courts,” Sheikh Bini emphasized.
These statements were made during the official opening of Masjid Hudaa, a mosque located in the Sogomo area and built specifically to serve the religious needs of the Muslim community and especially Muslim students from Eldoret University.
The opening ceremony provided a platform for Muslim leaders to discuss their concerns about the capacity of the current Kadhi Court system, while also emphasizing the importance of meeting the religious needs of the Muslim student community at Eldoret University.
