Moi Girls’ High School – Nangili in Likuyani Sub-County, Kakamega County, erupted in celebration on Friday, April 5th, 2024, as they held a thanksgiving ceremony to commemorate their outstanding performance in the 2023 KCSE exams. The ceremony served as a testament to the school’s dedication to academic excellence and the Kakamega County Government’s focus on improving educational outcomes.

Governor Fernandes Barasa, a strong advocate for quality education, attended the event and reiterated his commitment to making it a cornerstone of the county’s development agenda. His administration’s efforts seem to be bearing fruit, as evidenced by Moi Girls’ Nangili’s remarkable achievement. The school climbed the ranks to secure the second position in Kakamega with an impressive mean score of 8.63, a significant improvement from their 2022 score of 7.86. This translated to direct university entry for a staggering 97.5% of the graduating class, with 235 out of 241 students qualifying for university admission.

Governor Barasa commended the school’s faculty, staff, and students for their hard work and dedication. He also addressed the concerns of students who may not have qualified for university admission. Recognizing the value of alternative pathways to success, he encouraged them to consider enrolling in County Polytechnics. To further support these institutions, Governor Barasa highlighted the county government’s recent investments in upgrading their infrastructure and staffing. These improvements aim to ensure that County Polytechnics provide students with the necessary skills and qualifications to thrive in the job market.

The thanksgiving ceremony provided an opportunity for Governor Barasa to showcase the County Government’s achievements in the education sector. His administration has undertaken several initiatives aimed at bolstering educational standards across the county. These include the construction of 25 Centers of Excellence, which provide students with specialized learning environments and advanced resources. Additionally, the Governor has overseen infrastructure upgrades in 26 secondary schools, creating more conducive learning spaces for students. Furthermore, the recent launch of a Ksh. 240 million bursary program demonstrates the government’s commitment to making education accessible for all students, regardless of their financial background.

The event was a celebration of academic excellence and a beacon of hope for the future. Area Member of Parliament Hon. Innocent Mugabe, all Likuyani Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), alongside their colleagues from the County Assembly, and officials from both the national and county governments all attended the ceremony, signifying their collective commitment to education as a driver of progress in Kakamega County.
