Eldoret: MCA Calls for Urgent Action on Road Safety During Rainy Season
Moisbridge Ward MCA, Bishop Patrick Kimeli Kimaiyo, has spoken out against the alarming rise in road accidents plaguing the region during the rainy season.
He implored the government to implement stricter measures to address this critical issue.
Kimaiyo highlighted the disturbing frequency of accidents, stating, “Every road we use seems to be claiming lives.” He pinpointed the importance of vehicle maintenance, emphasizing, “Drivers navigating the rainy season must be especially cautious and ensure their vehicles are in good working order. Faulty vehicles are a major contributing factor to these accidents.”
Kimaiyo went on to urge drivers to steer clear of unroadworthy vehicles and called upon the police and the Ministry of Transport to prioritize improving road markings, specifically those that enhance visibility during adverse weather conditions.
“We, as a community, are weary of these needless tragedies,” Kimaiyo remarked. He issued a strong plea to Kenyans to exercise caution by avoiding overcrowded matatus and vehicles driven by individuals under the influence of alcohol.
The MCA advocated for a more stringent enforcement of existing drunk driving laws. He also emphasized the critical role of the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), urging them to heighten inspections and ensure that unfit vehicles are not permitted to carry passengers. By implementing these measures, Kimaiyo hopes to see a significant reduction in road accidents and save lives on Eldoret’s roads.
