10,000 households to benefit from iron rich bean seeds
Deputy Governor Prof. Cheserek flagged off 20 metric tonnes of ‘Nyota’ iron high beans seeds to be distributed to the vulnerable, People Living with Disabilities among others.
Iron is critical in producing hemoglobin, a protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen throughout the body.
Speaking during the event, Prof. Cheserek said the moved was also aimed at improving food security in the county.
In collaboration with HarvestPlus and World Vision, the five-year partnership will see more than 10,000 households.
“We want to ensure that families are food secure and also as an income generating activity, ” she said.
Agriculture and livestock CEC Mr. Edwin Seroney urged the beneficiaries to ensure that they grow the beans.
Also present were CeCs, Purity Koima, Thomas Maiyo, Chief Officers Edwin Komen and Lorna Kipsang, among other county staff.
