Uasin Gishu County Officially Receives 158 Motor Assets in Landmark Handover Ceremony
In a significant step towards bolstering its administrative capabilities, Uasin Gishu County has become the first county in Kenya to officially receive 158 motor assets from defunct local authorities in a ceremony presided over by Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii.
The handover ceremony, held at the County Yard, was attended by key officials including Principal Secretary for Devolution Hon. Teresia Mbaika and Deputy Governor Eng. John Barorot. Speaking at the event, Governor Bii expressed appreciation for the timely process, emphasizing the importance of avoiding potential Senate queries by ensuring full ownership and accountability of the assets.
“This is a good undertaking and we are hoping that we will avoid the Senate queries. At first, we had a challenge with full ownership but going forward, the value for every asset will enable us to satisfy the Auditor, and we are grateful for fast-tracking the process,” said Governor Bii.
He also commended the dedication of drivers and machine operators who have contributed to the efficient operation of the assets.
Principal Secretary Teresia Mbaika reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting devolution and ensuring that the benefits reach citizens at the grassroots level. She emphasized the role of individual county governments in managing the assets effectively to serve the needs of their constituents.
“As we launch this national exercise in Counties, the responsibilities now rest on individual county governments to ensure that the valued assets are dated in the county governments,” stated PS Mbaika.
Deputy Governor Eng. John Barorot highlighted the significance of resolving the issue of assets management, affirming that the exercise would streamline operations within the County Government of Uasin Gishu. He announced that all assets would be numbered under the designation CG 027 for proper identification and tracking.
Also present at the ceremony were County Secretary Mr. Edwin Bett, County Executives Martha Cheruto (Trade) and Lucy Ngendo (Sports), along with Chief Officers and other high-ranking officials from various departments.
The successful handover of motor assets marks a milestone in the efforts to strengthen devolution and enhance service delivery at the county level. With a clear framework for asset management in place, Uasin Gishu County is poised to achieve greater efficiency in its operations for the benefit of its residents.
