Governor Natembeya Leads TVET Centenary Celebrations in Trans-Nzoia, Lights the Celebration Torch
Trans-Nzoia Governor George Natembeya took the lead in commemorating the centenary celebrations of Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions in the county.
The event, held today, witnessed Governor Natembeya and other stakeholders in the technical training sector coming together to mark this significant milestone by lighting the celebration torch.
Addressing the attendees during the torch-lighting ceremony, Governor Natembeya underscored the pivotal role of vocational training in fostering the growth of the small and medium enterprise (SME) economy. He emphasized that equipping learners with skills for self-employment is vital in combating unemployment in the country. The Governor expressed his administration’s dedication to enhancing vocational training colleges (VTCs) as a critical component of economic development.
“The achievements of this sector are worthy of celebration,” Governor Natembeya remarked, acknowledging the contributions of TVET institutions to the nation’s progress.
The centenary torch served as a symbol of the remarkable success achieved through Technical and Vocational Education and Training over the past century.
Trans-Nzoia County’s Chief Executive Committee Member for Education and Vocational Training, Capt Stanley Kirui, encouraged students to enroll in the 32 vocational training centers across the county, as well as the four Technical Training Institutes and Kitale National Polytechnic, to acquire skilled knowledge.
Governor Natembeya was accompanied by a delegation from the TVET sector in the region, led by Martha Wekesa, the Trans-Nzoia County Director of TVET. Also present were John Akola, the principal of Kitale National Polytechnic, Daniel Kakusha, the principal of Endebess Technical Training Institute, and Mr. Nobert Wafula, the principal of Cherangβany Training Vocational Institute. Director of Vocational Training Eliud Khisa Lusweti, Deputy Director Eric Wafula, and other county officials also attended the event.
The centenary celebrations not only highlighted the achievements of TVET institutions but also reaffirmed the commitment of Trans-Nzoia County to promoting vocational training for economic empowerment and sustainable development.
