Nuru Foundation Celebrates 1st Anniversary with Teen Mothers on Mother’s Day
On the occasion of Mother’s Day, communities worldwide unite to pay homage to the extraordinary women who shape our lives. In a heartfelt celebration of this special day, Nuru Foundation marked its 1st anniversary with a gathering that underscored the resilience and courage of teen mothers who have faced early pregnancies.
Founded by Helen Jeptoo, Nuru Foundation has been a beacon of hope for over 500 girls in the community, providing them with support and guidance. At the anniversary celebration, teen mothers joined in, sharing their experiences and stories of overcoming adversity.
Jeptoo emphasized the importance of supporting and uplifting young mothers, extending the message of Mother’s Day beyond biological ties to include all maternal figures. She highlighted the significant impact of the Foundation’s work, particularly in areas like Langas Estate on the outskirts of Eldoret town, where teenage pregnancies are prevalent.
In addition to providing assistance to teen mothers, Nuru Foundation has also offered opportunities for girls from vulnerable backgrounds, offering them alternatives to street life.
Speaking at the event, Samburu County Senator Hezena Lemaletian stressed the importance of not neglecting teen mothers but rather providing them with the necessary support and love to thrive.
Renowned speaker Robert Burale drew attention to the correlation between poverty and teenage pregnancies, urging men to raise their value systems to protect and empower girls in their communities.
