In a bid to foster closer ties between agricultural enterprises and local communities, Farmers Party leader Irungu Nyakera paid a courtesy call to the Chief Executive Officer of Kakuzi Plc in Murang’a on Thursday. During his visit, Nyakera expressed admiration for Kakuzi’s dedication to value addition, aggregation, and community engagement.

Highlighting Kakuzi’s efforts in integrating smallholder farmers into their ecosystem, Nyakera commended the company for its proactive approach. “They have fully integrated smallholder farmers into their ecosystem,” noted Nyakera, emphasizing the importance of such inclusive practices in bolstering agricultural sustainability and livelihoods.

Of particular note was Kakuzi’s establishment of a Human Rights Awareness Manager role, tasked with engaging employees and stakeholders to ensure their rights are upheld and safeguarded. Nyakera lauded this initiative as a significant step towards promoting ethical practices within the company and protecting the rights of all involved parties.

During discussions, Nyakera and Kakuzi’s CEO explored strategies to further align the company’s operations with the local community’s needs and aspirations. “We also spoke of the things Kakuzi needs to focus on to become a Murang’a Company rather than a company in Murang’a. Let’s grow together,” remarked Nyakera, underscoring the importance of mutual collaboration and shared prosperity.

Kakuzi Plc, a leading agricultural enterprise in Murang’a, has been actively involved in various community development initiatives and sustainable farming practices. The company’s commitment to social responsibility and ethical business conduct has earned it recognition both locally and internationally.

As stakeholders continue to seek synergies between commercial enterprises and community interests, Kakuzi’s example serves as a beacon of responsible corporate citizenship in Kenya’s agricultural landscape. With leaders like Nyakera advocating for inclusive growth and ethical standards, the path towards a more equitable and sustainable future for all stakeholders appears increasingly promising.
