In a concerted effort to address youth unemployment and promote unity in Uasin Gishu County, leaders including Senator Mandago and local church officials convened a pivotal meeting. The gathering, held in Eldoret, aimed at devising strategies to engage young people gainfully and prevent social unrest due to idleness.

During the meeting, Kesses Member of Parliament Julius Ruto underscored the importance of unity among residents in fostering peace within the county. He emphasized the need for leaders to prioritize educational support, tackle youth unemployment, and alleviate financial burdens through viable employment opportunities.

“We want to be exemplary leaders, committed to our promises. It is our duty to ensure our youth are gainfully employed. Our focus should include educational support and empowering farmers,” said MP Julius Ruto, highlighting agriculture as a key sector for job creation.

Echoing these sentiments, Minister of Education Anthony Sitienei lamented the impact of joblessness among the youth, citing recent protests and property damage as consequences of idle hands. He stressed the urgency of creating local employment opportunities through investment in small industries.

“Our youth’s engagement in recent protests reflects their frustration with unemployment. Investing in local industries like toothpick and matchbox production can absorb significant numbers of youth,” Minister Sitienei remarked.

The leaders resolved to collaborate closely with community stakeholders and explore avenues for homegrown investments to enhance local job creation. They pledged to implement actionable solutions aimed at empowering the youth and ensuring sustained economic growth in the region.
