In a significant political move, President William Ruto of Kenya announced the dismissal of all Cabinet Secretaries yesterday at State House. The decision marks a major shift in the administration, as only Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, who oversees the Foreign and Diaspora Affairs portfolio, were spared.

The announcement was met with a mix of emotions from the outgoing Cabinet Secretaries. Many took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their gratitude for the opportunity to serve under President Ruto’s leadership.

Dr. Alfred Mutua, former Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs and ex-Governor of Machakos County, shared his reflections on the president’s decision. “I sincerely thank His Excellency President William Ruto for the confidence he demonstrated by entrusting me with the role of Cabinet Secretary in his government,” Mutua wrote. He praised Ruto’s dedication to Kenya’s transformation and expressed understanding of the necessity behind such difficult decisions for the nation’s greater good. “Thank you once again, Mr. President, for the opportunity to serve you and the people of Kenya. May the Almighty continue to guide you in the challenging task of revitalizing our nation,” he added.

Kipchumba Murkomen, the former Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, also took to X to express his appreciation. “It has been my greatest privilege and honor to serve my country as a Cabinet Secretary in charge of Roads & Transport. Thank you Mr. President for giving me the opportunity. God bless you and God bless Kenya,” Murkomen tweeted.

In the wake of the dismissals, many Kenyans have voiced their opinions on social media. A common sentiment among the public is questioning what the future holds for the dismissed Cabinet Secretaries and whether they will find new roles now that their services are no longer needed in the government.

As the country watches closely, President Ruto’s decision signifies a new phase for the administration, with the focus now shifting to the upcoming appointments and the direction of Kenya’s future governance.
