Kaptagat Native Andrew Maina Named Marshfield Chamber of Commerce Business Leader of the Year 2023
In a remarkable testament to perseverance and community spirit, Andrew Maina, a native of Kaptagat Scheme, Uasin Gishu, Eldoret in Kenya, has been honored with the prestigious title of Marshfield Massachusetts Chamber of Commerce Business Leader of the Year for 2023.
More than 25 years ago, Andrew Maina left his hometown in search of better opportunities in the United States. What began as a quest for personal and family advancement has evolved into a story of significant achievement and influence. Maina’s dedication and hard work have been recognized by the Marshfield Chamber of Commerce, celebrating his exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to his community.
Maina, the owner of Airport’s Pizzeria, expressed his gratitude upon receiving the news of the award. “I dedicate this award to all young people back in my home country Kenya and the entire globe. Hard work, resilience, and patience pay off,” said Maina.
His journey to success was not without challenges. Opening a new restaurant amid the global COVID-19 pandemic was daunting, yet Maina’s resilience and innovative leadership allowed him not only to survive but to thrive during these difficult times. One panelist praised him, stating, “Andrew Maina, owner of Airport’s Pizzeria, did just that. His steady leadership, steadfast support of community causes, and friendly demeanor have earned him the crown of 2023 Business Leader of the Year.”
Maina’s impact extends beyond his business. His commitment to community service is evident in his support for various causes, including a remarkable fundraising effort for the 34th Gala of a local organization in September 2022. His initiative raised over $400,000, a testament to his generosity and community involvement. The CEO of the organization reflected, “We are especially humbled and grateful to Mr. Andrew for this outpouring of incredible generosity. The support will make a positive impact on many lives.”
In Marshfield, Maina’s pizzeria has become a local favorite, praised for its delicious food and outstanding customer service. Community members commend Maina for his exemplary customer relations and his efforts to employ a diverse range of people, breaking barriers in the community. “Andrew Maina has always gone above and beyond for his customers while setting the highest example for his employees,” said one community member. Maina’s benevolence extends back to Kenya, where he supports the Unity of Love Foundation , an organization that provides sanitary pads and basic needs to underprivileged girls. He was awarded in 26th June , 2024, where a delegation from Kenya attended to honor Maina’s achievements. The event will also feature Massachusetts Senator and other prominent business leaders.
