Mother Identifies Daughter Among Victims in Kware Massacre as More Bodies Are Retrieved

In a heart-wrenching development in the ongoing investigation into the Kware massacre, Josephine Adisa, a resident of Moisbridge in Uasin Gishu County, has confirmed that her daughter, Himelda Akinyi, was among the 42 women found dead in Kware dam. The confirmation came after a man was arrested as a suspect in the killings, which include the murder of Akinyi and other victims.
Josephine Adisa described the moment she learned of her daughter’s fate. “Himelda is my second-born daughter. She went missing in 2021 and had dropped out of school to move to Nairobi unnoticed,” Adisa explained. “Today, while I was at work, my younger brother called to inform me that Himelda Akinyi was killed and dumped in Kware dam. Shocked, I left work and went home to gather more information.”
Adisa recounted the agonizing process of trying to confirm the news. “I contacted my other brother, who told me to stay calm and that he would verify the details for me,” she said. After confirming the tragic news, Adisa went to Kware dam and then to the City Mortuary in Nairobi to identify her daughter’s body.
The ordeal was compounded by the fact that Himelda had been out of touch since 2022, with her social media accounts going dormant and no contact from her since that time. “When she initially went missing, we did not report to the police right away because we could see her on social media and she was in touch with friends and family. But in 2022, she stopped communicating, and I started receiving calls from a man claiming to be her husband, a pastor from Sinai, who said he was with her,” Adisa said.
The Kware massacre has shocked the nation as more bodies are being retrieved from the dam and brought to the City Mortuary for identification. Families of the victims continue to come forward, seeking to identify their loved ones amidst the tragic aftermath of the massacre.
As the investigation continues, authorities remain focused on bringing justice for the victims and their families. The arrest of the suspect, who is alleged to have been involved in the killings, marks a significant step in addressing this horrific crime.
