KEMSA Welcomes New CEO Dr. Waqo Dulacha Ejersa

The Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) Board of Directors, led by Chair Irungu Nyakera, officially welcomed Dr. Waqo Dulacha Ejersa as the new Chief Executive Officer. The introduction took place this morning, where the KEMSA team provided Dr. Ejersa with a detailed briefing on the roles and responsibilities of various directorates and departments within the Authority, which are crucial for the distribution of essential medical supplies across the country.

Dr. Ejersa, an esteemed public health expert, brings extensive experience in healthcare management to his new role. Prior to his appointment at KEMSA, he served as the head of the National Tuberculosis, Leprosy and Lung Diseases division within the Ministry of Health. His tenure was marked by significant contributions to health policy development and implementation on both national and international stages.

With over 25 years in the field, Dr. Ejersa has been pivotal in shaping national health strategies, including those for malaria control and non-communicable diseases. His academic credentials include a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Nairobi, a Master of Public Health from the University of Melbourne, and he is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Strategic Planning from Edinburgh Business School.

Dr. Ejersa’s leadership has been recognized through several accolades, including the Order of Grand Warrior of Kenya. His expertise in financial management, strategic planning, and governance has notably improved transparency and efficiency in healthcare program implementation, particularly during his leadership of the National Malaria Control Programme.

In response to Dr. Ejersa’s appointment, CHRP Kabale Tache Arero, Chief Executive Officer of the National Land Commission, offered congratulations and expressed confidence in Dr. Ejersa’s ability to lead KEMSA effectively. Dr. Ejersa’s primary objectives at KEMSA include enhancing service delivery and ensuring the consistent availability of medical supplies across Kenya.
