President Ruto Nominates Dorcas Oduor as Attorney General
In a significant move on Tuesday, President William Ruto nominated Dorcas Oduor for the position of Attorney General.
Oduor, who is currently the Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, is poised to take over from Justin Muturi, who has been nominated to serve as the Public Service Cabinet Secretary.
The nomination follows President Ruto’s recent reshuffle, which included reassigning Rebecca Miano from her earlier appointment as Attorney General to the Tourism Ministry.
This shift came after Ruto dissolved his entire Cabinet earlier this month.
Oduor, an advocate of the High Court of Kenya, boasts an impressive academic background with a Master of Arts in International Conflict Management and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from the University of Nairobi, along with a Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
Should her nomination pass the vetting process by the National Assembly Committee on Appointments and receive the President’s official appointment, Oduor will become the principal legal adviser to the Government.
Her responsibilities will include representing the national government in legal matters and performing functions as defined by Parliament or the President.
Oduor’s appointment will be a key part of President Ruto’s newly reconstituted Cabinet, which notably includes at least four members from the Opposition party, ODM, signaling a move towards a more inclusive government structure.
