The Kenya National Police Deposit-Taking Sacco has praised the government’s recent decision to increase salaries for police officers, viewing it as a positive step towards improving their welfare. The pay raise, which took effect on July 1, 2024, is part of broader reforms aimed at enhancing the efficiency and integrity of Kenya’s security forces.

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo announced that the salary adjustments will be implemented in phases. The initial phase saw constables receiving a 40 percent salary increase, with progressively lower percentage increases for officers of higher ranks.

The second phase of the salary adjustment will commence in September 2024 and will extend to personnel from the Kenya Prisons Service (KPS) and the National Youth Service (NYS).

David Mategwa, National Chairman of the Sacco, lauded the government’s initiative, stating, “This move underscores the Government’s commitment to upscaling the welfare of security officers who risk their lives daily to ensure our safety and maintain law and order. As a Sacco, we remain dedicated to enhancing the socio-economic status of these officers by providing them with access to affordable credit.”

The Sacco promises to continue its support by offering financial services tailored to the needs of police officers, further aiding their economic stability and overall well-being.
