Mandera South Member of Parliament Hon Abdul Haro Kore has addressed the ongoing conflict between the Garre and Degodia clans in Banissa subcounty, near the Kenya-Ethiopia border. Despite multiple attempts over the past 11 years, the conflict has persisted due to its complex nature.

In response to a recent escalation, which saw the tragic loss of an entire family in Boho, Malkamarri—just across the border in Ethiopia—Hon Kore emphasized the need for immediate action. He stated that the leadership from Mandera County acted swiftly to address the situation, preventing further violence and large-scale displacement.

“Our intervention was not aimed at resolving the deep-seated conflict but rather to offer condolences to the affected families and to call for calm while we develop a more comprehensive strategy to address the underlying issues,” said Hon Kore.

The MP underscored the importance of focusing on the issues at hand rather than the communities involved. He denounced personal attacks and divisive rhetoric, advocating for problem-solving and collaborative approaches.

Hon Kore expressed gratitude to both the Garre and Degodia communities for their cooperation in de-escalating the situation and for their resilience under challenging conditions. He assured that efforts to find a lasting resolution to the conflict would continue in the coming days.
