Transzoia Governor George Natembeya joined Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua today in Tulwet, Waitaluk ward, to mourn the loss of Victor Gwaro Ukiona, a dedicated administrator who served the community with distinction. The funeral provided a platform for Governor Natembeya to address several pressing national issues.

In his remarks, Governor Natembeya highlighted the urgent need for reforms in Kenya’s education system. He specifically pointed out the need to address issues with the new university allocation system and the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). “Our education system must evolve to provide all students with equal opportunities to succeed,” Natembeya stated, emphasizing that the current system needs immediate attention to ensure fairness and accessibility for every student.

Governor Natembeya also stressed the importance of political unity within the Western community. He called for cohesive efforts to ensure that the region receives its equitable share of national resources. “It’s crucial that we work together to amplify our voice and secure the resources our region rightfully deserves,” he said.

Addressing the financial challenges faced by county governments, Natembeya expressed concern over the delay in fund disbursement from the national government. “Many counties, including ours, are struggling to pay salaries and meet other obligations due to this financial crisis. If this situation persists, we risk facing severe consequences, including potential shutdowns,” he warned. The Governor urged the national government to expedite the release of the funds owed to prevent such a crisis.

The Governor’s address underscored the urgent need for reform, unity, and timely financial support to address the challenges facing Transzoia and other counties across the nation.
