KISIP 2 Making Remarkable Progress in Eldoret City
Eldoret City is witnessing significant improvements through the Kenya Informal Settlement Improvement Programme (KISIP) 2, which is transforming local infrastructure in various informal settlements.
This ambitious project encompasses road tarmacking, drainage systems, street lighting, and high mast installations in areas including Kasarani, Shauri, Maili Nne, KK, Segero, Mwanzo, and Kipkaren.
Supported by Governor H.E. Dr. Jonathan Bii Chelilim, the initiative is not only upgrading infrastructure but also actively involving the local community. The program is creating non-skilled labor opportunities for local youth, enhancing community engagement and providing valuable work experience. This approach is contributing to economic growth, as evidenced by the rise in roadside businesses.
The Ksh. 1.2 billion investment is anticipated to significantly improve residents’ quality of life, according to CECM Lands, Dr. Janeth Kosgey. The project is expected to enhance connectivity, safety, and sanitation, thereby improving urban aesthetics and fostering a vibrant community.
Mrs. Rukia Abdi, a Kipkaren resident, expressed appreciation for the initiative, noting that better infrastructure will lead to enhanced connectivity and safety. Similarly, Hon. David Letting, MCA of Kipkaren Ward, highlighted that the project is addressing long-standing issues such as stagnant infrastructure, low business turnover, high crime rates, and poor housing conditions. By improving living conditions and stimulating economic activity, the initiative is set to create a more secure and prosperous community.
Chief Officer for Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Julius Koech, confirmed that the project is on schedule. He emphasized that the contractor is equipped with qualified personnel and that the work quality meets expectations. “The works are proceeding as planned, and we anticipate timely completion as per the Bill of Quantities (BQ),” Mr. Koech stated.
Overall, KISIP 2 is making a positive impact on Eldoret City’s informal settlements, promising enhanced infrastructure and economic growth for its residents.
