In a significant development for the athletics community, the Iten Athletics Saving and Credit Co-operative Society Ltd (SACCO) was officially launched today. The initiative, unveiled by H.E. Governor Wisely Rotich, promises to transform the financial landscape for Kenya’s celebrated athletes.

For decades, Kenyan athletes have proudly represented their nation on the global stage, consistently achieving outstanding performances and bringing international acclaim. Despite their success, many athletes face financial difficulties due to a lack of financial literacy and suitable investment vehicles. This has often led to significant losses and regrets after retirement, as they fall prey to fraudsters.

The Iten Athletics SACCO aims to address these issues by providing a platform for athletes to save, invest, and gain essential financial knowledge. Governor Rotich, who graced the launch event, emphasized the SACCO’s role in improving the overall welfare of the athlete community.

“This SACCO will serve as a cornerstone for financial literacy, helping athletes make informed investment decisions and manage their finances effectively,” Governor Rotich stated. He highlighted that the SACCO will also offer psychosocial support, educate athletes on doping and gender-based violence, and enhance quality athletic training, contract management, and brand management.

The establishment of the SACCO marks a new era for Kenyan athletes, providing them with the tools and support needed to secure their financial futures and ensure a stable post-competition life.
