Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka, who also chairs the Agriculture Committee in the Council of Governors (COG), has called for increased innovation in agribusiness as a critical strategy for enhancing food security. Speaking at the University of Eldoret’s 17th Agribusiness Trade Fair, Lusaka highlighted the significant role of public-private partnerships in advancing agricultural development and modern farming techniques.

During his address, Lusaka underscored the value of the Trade Fair in exposing regional farmers to new technologies, modern machinery, and improved training opportunities. “The Trade Fair underscores the importance of public-private partnerships in agriculture,” Lusaka remarked, noting that this year’s theme, “Promoting Climate-Smart Agri-preneurship and Value Addition to Spur Industrialization for Sustainable Development,” reflects the comprehensive efforts required to achieve food security.

Lusaka urged counties to foster conducive environments for agricultural growth, aligning with Kenya’s Vision 2030 through innovative and commercially driven practices. He also emphasized the need for bolstered research efforts, urging universities and research institutions to address the challenges faced by farmers throughout the agricultural value chain.

In closing, Lusaka praised the University of Eldoret and its partners for their dedication to supporting the agricultural sector through initiatives such as the Agribusiness Trade Fair. He reiterated Bungoma County’s commitment to agricultural research and development, acknowledging its pivotal role in achieving food security and driving industrial growth in Kenya.
