Governor Natembeya Visits Flood-Affected Chepchoina Ward
Transnzoia Governor George Natembeya recently visited Chepchoina Ward to assess the impacts of severe flooding that has affected the community. During the visit, he collaborated with the Kenya Red Cross Society to distribute essential household items to families in need, providing immediate relief to those hardest hit by the disaster.
Speaking to residents, Governor Natembeya emphasized the importance of accessing healthcare, particularly for pregnant women. He urged them to visit health centers during and after pregnancy to mitigate the transmission of diseases and reduce childbirth-related fatalities.
In addition to health concerns, the governor addressed the economic challenges faced by local farmers. He urged residents to resist selling their maize at unreasonably low prices to exploitative middlemen. “Our farmers deserve better compensation for their hard work,” he stated. Natembeya outlined plans to support farmers through cooperative societies aimed at securing fair prices for their produce.
Furthermore, he announced ongoing efforts to establish milling plants at the county’s Export Processing Zone (EPZ) once it is completed. This initiative aims to add value to local agricultural products and boost the region’s economy.
Governor Natembeya’s visit underscores his commitment to supporting the Chepchoina community as they navigate both health and economic challenges in the wake of the flooding.
