Registration for the much-anticipated second edition of The Great Chepsaita Cross Country Run kicked off on December 7, drawing an impressive turnout of over 15,000 athletes at the Chepkemel Dispensary grounds in Turbo Sub County, Uasin Gishu County.

Prominent leaders, including race patron Farouk Kibet, National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichungwah, and Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii, attended the event, emphasizing the positive impact of the race on local youth employment. “This race is more than just a competition; it’s a lifeline for many young people seeking opportunities,” said Kibet.

He added, “We expect an even higher turnout this year as athletes from over 20 countries are set to participate. Our aim is to uplift education standards in the area, and this event plays a crucial role.”

Athletes will also benefit from a medical camp as they prepare for the race, ensuring their health and readiness for the challenging course. Central Rift Athletics Kenya Chairman Abraham Mutai, along with Technical Team Head Ibrahim Hussein, confirmed that preparations are well underway. “While there are slight changes to the course, it remains one of the toughest in the region, serving as a true test for all participants,” Mutai stated.

This year’s race theme, “Run for Education,” was praised by Julius Melly, Chairman of the Education Committee in Parliament. He noted, “This initiative will significantly boost education standards across the country. We are proud to support such an important cause.”

As excitement builds for the event, athletes and organizers alike are gearing up for a race that promises not only athletic challenge but also a significant contribution to the educational landscape of the region.
