In a significant move to bolster the safety and security of tourists, Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife and the Ministry of Interior and National Administration. This agreement aims to enhance collaboration with the National Police Service (NPS) through the Tourism Police Unit.

During a press conference, Miano emphasized the importance of multisectoral cooperation in growing the number of inbound tourists. “Our strategic focus to increase tourism requires a united approach,” she stated. “The safety and security of our visitors is paramount for the thriving of this critical sector.”

The MoU will facilitate improved coordination between tourism officials and law enforcement agencies, ensuring that visitors experience a safe and welcoming environment. This initiative aligns with the government’s broader efforts to promote Kenya as a premier tourist destination.

Miano expressed optimism that this partnership will not only enhance security measures but also build confidence among potential tourists considering Kenya for their travels. The collaboration is expected to lead to enhanced training for the Tourism Police Unit and improved communication strategies for addressing tourist safety concerns.

As Kenya seeks to recover and grow its tourism sector, the government is committed to creating an environment where both tourists and local communities can thrive together
