Law Society of Kenya Demands Justice for Blogger Bruce John Following Alleged Abduction
In a powerful statement addressing the troubling case of Mombasa-based blogger Bruce John, Faith Odhiambo, the President of the Law Society of Kenya, has called for immediate action against those responsible for what she describes as a “heinous act” of impunity.
Bruce John recently recounted his harrowing experience of abduction and mistreatment, drawing widespread condemnation from civil society and legal advocates. Odhiambo highlighted the broader implications of John’s ordeal, stating, “This heartwrenching account bespeaks everything that is wrong with the leadership of our country. There is no humanity, no conscience, no regard for the sanctity of human life, rights, and liberty.”
The Law Society’s President emphasized the necessity for accountability, urging the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to swiftly identify and prosecute the individuals involved. “Kenya is a country governed by the rule of law, and nobody is above it, especially not any state officer that might be involved,” she asserted.
In a passionate plea, Odhiambo insisted that the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) take prompt action to charge those implicated in the criminal conduct surrounding John’s abduction.
The growing outcry for justice has galvanized both local and international observers, with hashtags like #JusticeforBruce trending on social media platforms. Advocates argue that the case underscores a disturbing pattern of violence and intimidation faced by journalists and activists in Kenya.
As calls for justice intensify, the DCI faces mounting pressure to act decisively in this high-profile case, as the nation watches closely to see if the principles of accountability and justice will prevail.
