Parliament’s Impeachment Motion: A Step Toward Accountability and Unity
In a historic move, members of Parliament have displayed commendable maturity and integrity in handling the impeachment motion against the Deputy President. This significant development, the first under the UDA regime, marks a pivotal moment for constitutionalism and the rule of law in Kenya.
Kipkorir Ngetich, an Eldoret-based human rights activist, expressed pride in the current Parliament’s conduct, stating, “Kenya has returned to the good books of history by defending national security, cohesion, and unity.” He commended the MPs for their commitment to upholding democratic principles, emphasizing that their actions reflect a responsible and independent legislature.

The activist pointed out the potential risks posed by the Deputy President’s continued presence in office, highlighting concerns over national safety. Additionally, Ngetich urged Parliament to consider enacting legislation to facilitate the recall of underperforming members across all levels of government, underscoring the importance of accountability in leadership. He particularly praised MPs from Central Kenya for their courage in standing firm against potential backlash, emphasizing their role in defending the Constitution amid security threats.
