The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) marked its 50th anniversary on Monday with a vibrant celebration attended by dignitaries and stakeholders in the field of standardization and quality assurance. The event, graced by Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, highlighted KEBS’s pivotal role in enhancing the quality and safety of products and services in Kenya.

In his address, Koskei commended the leadership of Managing Director Esther Ngari, noting her efforts in advancing the organization’s mission. “Under her leadership, KEBS has set and upheld the highest standards for a safer, better Kenya,” he stated. He emphasized the importance of maintaining quality in a globalized and competitive environment, asserting that effective standards foster trust between the government and its citizens, as well as among nations.

Cabinet Secretary for Investment, Trade and Industry, Salim Mvurya, also spoke on the significance of standards. He remarked, “The story of standards is not one of mere rules and regulations; it is a story of transformation.” He highlighted how standards serve as a foundational force driving progress and enhancing the credibility of Kenyan products in the global market.

Managing Director Esther Ngari outlined KEBS’s accomplishments over the past five decades, noting that the organization has certified numerous government and private institutions to meet international management system standards. “These efforts have strengthened the credibility of Kenyan products and services,” she asserted. Ngari reaffirmed KEBS’s commitment to quality, safety, and excellence, positioning the organization as a key player in Kenya’s industrial growth and global competitiveness.

The anniversary also coincided with World Standards Day, marking a dual celebration of progress in quality assurance. As Kenya moves forward, KEBS aims to continue its vital role in upholding standards that protect consumers and promote fair trade, ensuring a brighter future for the nation.
